No joke. Her fur is simply getting thin on her neck, upper chest and shoulders. It's not in patches; it looks the way a man's hair does when it starts getting thin. She doesn't have any sores or rough spots; her skin looks fine, just a little dry. It's not mange, fleas, her collar or her food. She doesn't scratch and she seems perfectly healthy and happy. She runs and plays like a puppy (even though she's 5 1/2) and eats like a horse. Anybody have any ideas before I have to pay the vet $100?
My dog seems to be going bald?
Pay the hundred dollars and let the vet tell you the problem...you wouldnt want to get advice from someone who wasnt a doctor if you were sick...dog could have thyroid problems...in humans it makes the hair fall out as if one was going bald...but grows back as soon as it is corrected...so take the dog to the vet...laters

dogs do blow coat after a litter - why on earth was she not spayed?
You say its not her food but if she is getting food from the grocery store it could well be contributing.

It's common for the mother's coat to thin after having pups. All her nutrition is going to feed her babies %26amp; her coat suffers. My poodle's coat got thin also even though she was eating high protein food %26amp; a lot of it. Her coat has finally returned to normal 18 months later. As long as you keep an eye on her skin (if it's dry, try a moisturizing shampoo like an oatmeal based or tea tree oil based) %26amp; be sure to flea treat her with frontline. And since she's over 5 yrs, it's time to retire her from motherhood %26amp; get her spayed.

Some dogs lose hair after having pups. It's nothing to worry about if that is the cause and it'll grow back in time. If she has dry skin try using an oatmeal based shampoo. It could also be her food. Even though she eats alot of it there might not be enough nutrition in it. I would keep that appointment just to make sure it's nothing else and to ease your mind. Good luck!

Your dog might be depressed. My cat starts going bald on her head if i travel, or go on vacation, I took her to the vet he said to simply give her more affection. Since she had pups, have you given them away? That could be the main cause... Hope I helped a little.. oh yeah and if her skin is dry, it could be from washing her too much. You are only supposed to wash your dog every 6 months
