Ladies, have you ever told one of your female co-workers about her working attire?

Oh you've worked with this type before: She dresses like she's going to a club, showing EVERYTHING! Nuff said... You've pulled her aside and told her that her work attire is drawing unwanted attention but she's blown you off more than a 40 year old man's bad hair piece in a windstorm.

She claims you're "jealous" of her physical assets. Have you ever encountered this problem with one of your female co-workers? What did you say to her and if you did say something, was it received well or rejected?

Anytime I run into this, I just make a sign that says "Will Whore For Money" and tape it to their desk when they're out and when no one else can see me do it.

If I was working with some one like that I would probably say something.

She thinks she looks good....obviously doesn't understand "business attire". Depending on where you work go to either the manager or to human resources and let them address the issue.

lol........" a 40 year old man's bad hair piece in a windstorm."

Similar, but not exactly. When I was 16-19, I worked as a data entry clerk. Part time during school, full time over the summer. A woman there was 40+ or at least looked it, and could have been the poster girl for a desperate single woman. She wore more revealing clothes to work than anything I had in my whole closet!

One day while she was taking a smoke break (do women like that always smoke, or is it just me?) I asked to talk to her in private. I told her that I had heard men making derogatory comments about her, and the way she dresses, which I had. She asked for specifics, which I gave her (plus what I thought for good measure.) She then asked for names, which I wouldn't give her. So she ignored me, and said I was too young to understand "how these things work."

So I decided to gather up all of the people who I knew, and asked them to help me write a note to her. No signatures, but each person just add a line saying how they feel about her clothing choices, good or bad. By the time it was done making office rounds, I had over 40 people who wrote something on it, most of it bad. I slipped it in her "In" box while she was out one day, and she certainly didn't like what it had to say. She toned it down (not much though) after that.

If I were in that situation, I would think it would be better not to say anything. If her attire offends you, tell a supervisor that you find it unprofessional and offensive-- but I would never advise getting directly involved. If she's already got the poor taste to wear such attire, she's probably not going to take your criticism in a very grown-up way- as happened in your situation. Some people are trash, you just have to accept that!
