Does anyone remember this survival story?

About 10 or 15 years ago, Reader's Digest ran a feature length story about a man who survived 8 weeks or so in the snowy mountains, I think in Nepal. He repeatedly read Dicken's "Great Expectations" to pass the time. He had red hair. Does anyone remember the man's name or the name of the book the article was taken from or anything else? Thanks very much.
