In biblical terms why aren't women allowed to have short hair %26amp; wear whatever they like ???
I know that it has something to do with religion but if that is all a fact what do the men do ???
Do they have to cover up as well or are they allowed to wear what they want ....Cause that doesn't seem fair cause if women do all of that, so that men don't look at them the wrong way, What do men do so women don't look at them the wrong way how does it work and is it actually fair for both sexes or only for the men.And why are women responsible for men's physiological responses???
Don't take any of this in the wrong way i'm just curious i want to know why women have to do this i'm not trying to offended anybody just want straight facts:)
thank you!!!
Can someone clear this for me i'm totaly confused???
Hey Patrice!
I just thought I'd drop in a little note...
Yes...of course men have to dress modestly and decently as well!! Like I used to cut my hair and wear pants, and jewellery and all that stuff before, but when I came to think of it, the bible says in First Corinthians Chapter 11 that a woman's long hair is their covering...and it basically says that its a disgrace when she prays and prophesies with her hair short...etc...so that's why I don't cut my hair now! But of course, for the men, I believe they have to wear modest clothes like long pants...etc...and cover up just like the women should so that men don't look at women the wrong way and women don't look at men the wrong way...etc...like body piercings, tattoos, and long hair would be just as wrong for men.....as makeup and mini skirts and short hair for women, etc鈥?br>
I don鈥檛 think there鈥檚 anything wrong with wearing some jewellery (like a watch, ring, or a simple necklace)鈥ecoz ppl in bible days did as well鈥?but the thing is鈥ometimes it gets too overboard and then we start dressing up to much just for show and to attract other men鈥tc鈥hat鈥檚 where it gets wrong鈥 know wat I mean. But I think it鈥檚 alright to wear some jewellery鈥 don鈥檛 see anything wrong with that!
In our church, we (women) are encouraged to wear full-length or nearly full-length skirts. I've always thought I could never look good or "in-fashion" if I wore skirts...but it does turn out really good. I mean I wear skirts all the time and there's heaps of really cool, long skirts out there in the shops...and normally for tops that are too low at the neck, I always wear a sort of "undertop"...so i can still buy the clothes in the shop, but i have to wear something underneath.
A lot of people say that it鈥檚 wat鈥檚 in the heart that counts. That鈥檚 true 鈥?God does look into the heart of the person. Absolutely! But the outward appearance proves our hearts are right with God. That鈥檚 shy it says in the Bible, 鈥淚f you love me, you will keep my commandments.鈥? Someone might say, 鈥淚 love Jesus, I believe in Jesus, and he looks at my heart that I鈥檓 sincere.鈥? That鈥檚 good! But watever is in the heart, that鈥檚 wat will come out in the outward appearance. Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.鈥?br>
Hey, why don鈥檛 u just try it??? Just start wearing long skirts and dresses and let your hair grow long without cutting it and u鈥檒l be surprised how different u鈥檒l feel. Your attitude will be sooooo different!
Have u seen ladies wearing high-heeled black boots, tight pants, tight tops, with short hair, makeup, and everything? You鈥檒l be surprised how different those women feel and act when they wear those things!!!
But I can say for sure that if a women wears long skirts and/or dresses and modest tops...women look beautiful and godly and the men will respect and value that woman more than anyone else!
This is just wat I believe鈥 might be wrong鈥ut I just thought I鈥檇 drop in this note! How鈥檚 everything going?? I haven鈥檛 talked to u in AGES!! Glad u鈥檝e finished off ur physics!! Well鈥uv ya Patrice and talk to u soon!
God Bless! %26lt;3

Men are a bit more simple minded than women (one-track minds %26amp; all), %26amp; need to be protected from themselves... As women, we have that nurturing, protective instinct.
I'm being sarcastic, but only a little bit...

Because that is how the times were at the time the bible was written. Women were pretty much property and had no rights what so ever.

You can't offend me. Nothing offends me. Unless you talk about my dog. I ain't having none of that. Look, you can't take the bible seriously. It was written BFE (before feminist era). It has no meaning today.

Actually in the Bible Jesus calls men not to look at women lustfully, and in the same way women are not to lust after a man. Dressing tastefully was what he was getting at! If you truly want to know ask your dad or brother about what to wear, and what makes them look at you wrong" In Biblical terms it was talking about modesty in the day and not drawing excessive attention like strippers or prostitutes would do.

Its actually pretty simple. The Biblical picture of a Christian woman is that of a woman who wants to be a mother and a wife.
This means taht wearing clothes that are too sexy is not good because you will make men "lust" after you.
Having very short hair is not that good either because you may look like a man, but I dont think there is anything specific in the Bible against short hair.
This doesn't mean women have to cover up their face or wear all black or anything like that.

men weren't aloud to have long hair or where dresses or shave their heads or cut there beards

God says that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. In older days, like Jesus' time, it wasn't appropriate for women to go unleashing their "hot/sexy legs" to the men and rest of the world. And why would they have wanted to? Even still. I mean, if you show em' all you got, then what? You've left them nothing to their imagination. Jesus wanted women to remain virgins until after marriage, and keep their "temples" pure.
I imagine women COULD cut their hair short, but it wouldnt be neccesarily socially acceptable. Women were supposed to look like women, and men were supposed to look like men as the way God had intended when he created human beings. The attire back then consisted of long robe-like gowns for both men and women. Women were supposed to keep their minds pure, and so were men. Its the same for both sides, we just have some more to cover. :)

Yours is a perfectly intelligent question (don't listen to that first answerer).
God instructed women *and* men to be modest. However, modesty has meant different things at different times and in different places. For example, I feel decently dressed in a T-shirt and shorts--as long as the shorts reach to mid-thigh. I don't believe that, wearing those clothes, I am provocative in American culture. However, I wouldn't dream of wearing those if I were in Jordan. And no one would have worn those a century ago. Back when the Lord gave His instructions, cultural values dictated that a woman cover her hair and keep it long.
One reason why God instructed us to be modest is so we don't encourage others to lust. That goes both ways on the gender road, but women tend to have an easier time. Men are often aroused by what they see (hence, the popularity of pornography). If you wear a mini mini-skirt and a tube top, you're not helping anybody refrain from lusting. Now, that sin is their responsibility, but God encourages us to help one another stay pure. Guys need a little extra help.
I hope this cleared things up for you. It's a good question that has required clarification for many people. So feel free to cut your hair and throw away the veils. Just keep the mini skirts to a minimum.

women are encouraged to dress modestly in the Bible.
Modesty tells us a woman has character, and is virtuous.
dressing modestly also tells us this woman loves her body, and that her body is not a tool for show.
Yes, i admit it is men's weakness for us to look at girls and have all kinds of imagination in our heads.
but i can also tell you that a man would imagine MORE about a woman who is scantily clad and skimpliy dressed, than a woman who is dressed modestly.
covering up protects women, from perverted rapists, and potential molesters. covering up gives a Christian woman authority and character.
and by the way, you dont have to dress little to be fashionable. Dressing little does not equate FASHIONABLE. in fact, guys actually think girls who dress little are just cheap and not of "wife material". these girls, in our opinon, are just "for fun".
my church teaches modest dressing, which means, the girls are discouraged wear skirts or shorts TOO ABOVE the knee. girls are also discouraged to wear too V-necks blouse, or shirts which might expose their cleavage.
and i can tell you somthing, our church girls are not plain and dull without these skimpy clothes. they turn up in modest, yet very fashionable clothes in church. and to me, they are the most beautiful, virtuous women in the world!

Well, Nate has the most sense so far. ** A womans hair is considered her crowning glory and this is one reason for her having long hair. The Bible say s it is a shame, NOT A SIN for men to have long hair. Women covered their heads in the synagogs as a showing of obedience and reverence for and to God. These things are in the Old Testament. With Jesus' arrival here on earth, He made ALL THINGS NEW. The old laws can't be followed.... they are laws of perfection. We are not perfect. That's why Jesus gave us the NEW laws. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, with everything in you. And the second is like the first, love your neighbor as you love yourself. In the New Testament these are the New laws we are asked to obey. Do you love your parents, siblings, friends and do you love yourself? How hard can these two laws be? Which would you rather obey? Which would be easier to do? I say the two laws laid out in the New Testament are easiest.
Now to the subject of dress and how men see women. Back in the days after Adam and Eve listened to the devil instead of God; after Cain slew Able. Man has lusted in his heart for women. Not all men, but enough men have. Back then dresses hung to the ground and 99.9% of a womans body was covered from sight. It didn't stop men from lusting after women then any more than wearing long dresses would now. Men are responsible for their actions and reactions to women and girlsjust as we are responsible for how we act toward men or boys. I know women who today wear long skirts or dresses get raped just like the ones who wear mico mini skirts. It isn't what the person is wearing it is what is in the persons heart. Lustful wrong thinking and acting on that wrong thinking is placed in the mind by the devil. That dosen't mean the man or woman should act on that thought just because it is there. A man desiring a woman or a woman desiring a man should only be acted on in marriage. Those desires are meant to bring about children, when they are inside a marriage. Want information on how to raise children or act as a responsible adult male or female? It's in the Bible; read Proverbs. It tells young men not to lust with their eyes/hearts after women, and thats' just for starters. If you have problems with the KJV of the Bible, keep it and purchase a New Living Translation. Check with a local Christian book store as to the best version translation. I have a translations in Greek, Hebrew and more translations as well. Find a Bible study group or Church and take a not book and learn from the studies. The fasinating thing about the Bible is....the more you read the Bible the more the Bible teaches you. Each time you read it through you learn more about the Bible, God, yourself and the world. The words are the same, but the story is never ending. Because you never stop learning something new from The Word. Read the Bible enough and you will start to see it is more than just a book, the Bible has a "Life" of its own. Because it is the Living Word of God.
In addition to getting a King James Version/New King James version or a /New Living Translation or all three. find a Bible teaching Church. Check out one that is really on the move.....Calvary Chapel.com. They have Churches around the world. You can dress in jeans or shorts, or dress to the teeth and attend. Jesus said he came for the sick and the hurting, the poor and the downtrodden to give them the Hope of Him. I sincerely belive if Jesus walked into any Calvary Chapel....He would be welcomed, not ousted for His sandles, robes, tunics, or lenght or lack of hair. Attending is like being in a large Bible study class. You are taught word by word, chapter by chapter, the music is awsome as is the learning you recieve.
You have not offended me in the least, wish I could invite you to the one I attend, but if you are in Europe or China or such then you wouldn't be able to come where I am. Please do not let people know where you are if you are a teen/ child/ young or older adult... The world mostly listens to satan, which is why there is murders, pestilence, rapes, molesters, porn and such. If the world would only wise up and listen to God this world woulb be much better off. Jesus said to ask, seek, and knock. He is waiting for us to do just that. He wants us to return to Him....Just read the story of the Prodigal Son with this in mind. It is a picture of us and Jesus/God. We all are the Prodigals...male or female; and we have wasted our lives thinking we are living our best. But it we go back home....return to Jesus/God. He is waiting and watching for us to come to Him. Take heart, Jesus Loves you very much. He loves the girl who was raped or on dope just as much as the girl who wasn't raped or on drugs ....this goes for guys too. I hope I shed some light on your questions for you. I tried to give you the facts as I have learned them from the Bible.

Perhaps the unequal standard is because we women have less lust in our hearts.
Anyway, why don't you try wearing skirts and dresses, and having your hair long as a covering? You may be surprised 1) how differently you feel about yourself, and 2) how much more respectfully people treat you.
Good question. I was asking the same things a few years ago. God bless.
EDIT: I live on a farm and even climb trees. I wear a "skort" which has BOTH front and back panels. Looks like a skirt, but works like a pair of pants.
